Very special Bat Mitzvah
Posted on January 11th, 2016
Over the summer I was honored to photograph a very special Bat Mitzvah of a very special young man. I have worked with this family for many years and have always walked away with a lighter heart after each one of our sessions. I am overwhelmed with how much love they have for each other. The oldest child in this family is non verbal autistic. This event was for Paul. I was blown away by the service that was held in the small chapel at Beth El. (A side note, this is where I shot my very first Bat Mitzvah portraits and LOVE this room! It is such a sacred place) It is not usual for us to photograph the service but this was not your ordinary service. It was held on Sunday morning and then family and friends headed over to Longwood Gardens in Philadelphia, one of Paul’s favorite place. I broke down in tears quite a few times during speeches and prayers. Spiritual and uplifting are my two works when I think back to this experience…. Please just let me share the images….
The rabbi and the cantor at Beth El are so gracious and I enjoy working with them! They are wonderful teachers and leaders.
Paul was able to say his prayers using an iPad.
This made me tear up.
Also completely lost it with mom and dad speeches! I want to spend my time with them outside of our working relationship. They have been through so much, learned so much and are amazing parents to all their children.
I know I have said it many times… Thank you Serotta family. My life is enriched by the experience. After the service, friends and family were invited to join them at Longwood Gardens. Now please keep in mind that this was one of the HOTTEST days this summer! It was a lovely setting and very dear to Paul, where he finds great joy. Paul was the only one who did not seem to notice the heat but it was a great setting to have family photos…. You will notice that we kind of melt as the images go by.
I go a little crazy with cute families and kids to photograph!!! Some beautiful families!
love this one with his grandmother and dad….
and more family!!!
Almost forgot but Paul’s teachers from Eden came down to participate in this important event in Paul’s life. Special education teachers are the best!
